The short answer Here are 180 Halloween would you rather questions in eight groups: funny, for kids, for teens, for adults, scary (but not gory), candy, costumes and hard ones. Read them aloud at a party, in a classroom or around the dinner table, or print our free Halloween This or That cards and pass the deck around. Every question is clean enough for a mixed crowd.
Would you rather is the easiest Halloween game to run. No board, no supplies and no rules beyond “pick one, and you can’t say neither.” Halloween hands you great material too: vampires, candy, haunted attics, costumes that are too hot to wear.
Our printable deck has 48 quick Halloween choices, ten cards to a page. Add your party name, then print a PDF (US Letter or A4) or play on a phone or TV.
Halloween This or That
How to play: Cut the cards apart and stack them face down. Read one card aloud. Everyone picks a side at the same time: point left for the first answer, right for the second. Anyone in the minority explains their choice in one sentence.
- Candy corn or caramel apple?
- Scary costume or funny costume?
- Haunted house or hayride?
- Carve a pumpkin or paint a pumpkin?
- Chocolate or sour candy?
- Trick-or-treat or hand out candy?
- Ghost or witch?
- Vampire or werewolf?
- Scary movie or silly Halloween movie?
- Store-bought costume or homemade costume?
- Full-size candy bars or a big bag of mini ones?
- Black cat or bat?
+ 36 more in the printable.
How to play Halloween would you rather
- Sit in a circle or around a table. Shuffle the cards, or pull up this page on a phone.
- The reader reads one question aloud. On the count of three, everyone points: left hand for the first choice, right hand for the second.
- Anyone alone in their choice gets one sentence to defend it. That’s where the good stuff happens.
- Pass the cards (or the phone) to the next reader.
- Stop while people are still laughing. Fifteen to twenty minutes is right for most groups.
Want points? Before each vote, the reader predicts which side will win. A correct call earns a point, and the first player to five takes a prize from the candy bowl.
Playing with a big group? Make the room the game. Put a sign that says “THIS” on one wall and “THAT” on the other, and have everyone walk to their side. It’s a good way to get a classroom or an office party moving.

Ways to use these questions
At a Halloween party
Use the cards as the first game while people arrive, since nobody needs the rules explained. They also work as a break between louder games. Our Halloween games for all ages has a full party plan built around games like this.
In a classroom
Read one question as a warm-up each morning in October, or use the “walk to your side” version for a class party. Stick to the funny, kids and candy sections. Kids can write their own questions on index cards for the last round; theirs tend to be the strangest ones.
At work
Read one at the start of a meeting and take a show of hands. The candy, costume and adults sections are all office-safe. Our office Halloween party games has more games that work at work.
At the dinner table or on a drive
No cards needed. Pull this page up on a phone and take turns reading. With two players, try guessing each other’s answer before you both reveal.
Looking for questions that aren’t about Halloween? Our would you rather questions list has 300 more, and every Halloween game we make is on the Halloween games page.
